Queens of the Stone Age Animated Promos to Become a Feature Film?
Pearl Jam/Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron has revealed that he's partnered withDeath Grips/Hella drummer Zach Hill and Sleater-Kinney/Wild Flag drummer Janet Weiss to form a new band called DRUMGASM.
While the group's self-titled debut effort is set to be released on August 27, you can pre-order it now on vinyl at JackpotRecords.com. The release will run you $14.99 and comes with a free download card so you can enjoy the tracks on your digital devices, too.
Foo Fighters, Gaslight Anthem Donate Music to Hurricane Sandy Documentary, Beach 119
Last month, Queens of the Stone Age previewed new cuts from their recently released album, ...Like Clockwork, in a series of short animated films created by U.K. artistBoneface. Now, it appears that there is some interest in turning those clips into a feature-length film.
A source close to QOTSA tells NME that a number of “major Hollywood studios” have pitched both the group and Boneface about the project, and that they are looking to snag Quentin Tarantino or Tim Burton to direct the flick. In addition, the source reveals that producers would like the movie to feature some of the guest artists who appear on the release, which includes Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails, former Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan, former Mars Voltadrummer Jon Theodore and Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner.
Smashing Pumpkins to Reissue The Aeroplane Flies High in July
Foo Fighters and The Gaslight Anthem are among the artists who have donated their music to be used in a new documentary, Beach 119, which chronicles the lives of the residents of Beach 119th Street in The Rockaways as they deal with the aftermath from Hurricane Sandy.
"This documentary is to give these survivors a voice to tell their story," said the film’s co-director, Marcie Allen, in a statement. "Beach 119 is a story of humanity. Strangers came together in a time of need."
Included in the soundtrack are Foo Fighters' "Home, The Gaslight Anthem's "National Anthem" and some original music by Staind guitarist Mike Mushok.
Following the reissues of 1991’s Gish, 1993’s Siamese Dream, 1994’s Pisces Iscariot and 1995′s Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, The Smashing Pumpkins will now re-release their 1996 box set, The Aeroplane Flies High, in July.
The set will be available in a variety of formats, including standard and deluxe digital versions and a vinyl package. All versions will include a remastered edition of the original album, while the deluxe versions will include more than 60 previously unreleased and alternate versions of tracks, as well as live recordings. The physical version of the deluxe package will also include a live DVD documenting a July 4, 1997 concert in Belfort, France.
“Listening to the music gathered here is a little bit like seeing what goes on behind the walls of Disneyland,” says frontman Billy Corgan in a statement. “You look over that gate and notice that things on the other side are not well painted -- or maybe you spot that guy dressed as some character sneaking a smoke on his break. At least for me, the behind the scenes feel heard on The Aeroplane Flies High represents something revealing not found on the main album.”
The Aeroplane Flies High reissues will be available July 23. To view the full track list of each box set and DVD, visit SmashingPumpkins.com.
