Kings of Leon to Release Mechanical Bull in September; Previews New Single “Super Soaker” at Governors Ball Fest
Kings of Leon have revealed the name and release date for their sixth studio album.Mechanical Bull is set to arrive at all the usual outlets on September 24, reports Billboard.
Bassist Jared Followill had previously stated that the new tracks will sound similar to their earlier work. "I thought we were going to make a really mature album but I'm amazed how youthful it sounds,” he told NME. “It's like a mix of [our 2003 debut album]Youth and Young Manhood and [2007’s] Because of the Times."
While their headlining performance at New York's Governors Ball Festival was canceled on Friday due to severe weather conditions, the band took the stage on Saturday and debuted Mechanical Bull’s first single, “Super Soaker,” during their rescheduled set. Fan-filmed footage of the performance can be seen on YouTube. Billboard reports that “Super Soaker” will be released sometime around mid-July.

Watch Official Video for New Black Sabbath Single "God Is Dead?" Online Now
The official video for "God Is Dead?," the first single from Black Sabbath's just-release studio album 13, can be viewed now online. The clip, which was directed by controversial filmmaker and social activist Peter Joseph, got its world premiere this past Thursday in Hollywood.
The provocative video features various photos and archival film footage of Black Sabbath incorporated into its narrative, which takes an abstract and artistic look at song's titular theme. Among the recurring images in the clip are semi-animated scenes of various people standing in the bustling center of New York City's Times Square as Black Sabbath members are projected on the screens that tower above the street.
Other segments show scenes of war, destruction and human suffering; a Bible covered by a U.S. flag; an apparently affluent couple gorging themselves food and wine; several men of different religious faiths who drop various items of religious significance onto the ground; and a droplet of blood that expands into a river that threatens to drown people on the street.
As the video nears its finale, throngs of people are seen lining a city street in protest in front of some official building protected by riot police. Things come to an ambiguous end as a bright light illuminates the world, possibly signaling apocalypse or salvation.
Director Joseph's credits include a counterculture-inspired trilogy of films titled Zeitgeist, and he used scenes from the movies in making the "God Is Dead?" clip.
He explains of the video, "The gesture of the song 'God Is Dead?,' with its subtle reflection on the often dark world we inhabit and questioning of how such a world can be if there was a god, resonated with me."
Kirk Hammett Says Metallica’s Filling Up “Riff Bank” for New Album
Despite the distractions of their constant touring schedule and their upcoming 3D flick,Through the Never, Metallica is still focused on the task of creating songs for their follow-up to 2008’s Death Magnetic. Guitarist Kirk Hammett says that in their spare time, the band has been stockpiling a large number of heavy riffs for their tenth studio effort.
"We do have a lot of musical ideas, we have something called 'the Riff Bank,' and the Riff Bank keeps getting bigger and bigger, still, to this day," he tells MTV News. "I'm writing stuff, [bassist] Rob [Trujillo]'s writing stuff, [frontman] James [Hetfield] is writing stuff, [drummer] Lars [Ulrich] is writing stuff, continually expanding the Riff Bank.”
Hammett adds that while the band is coming up with lots of material, fans will need to wait about two years before they can get their hands on it. "I think it's a more sober statement to make to say that the album will probably come out in 2015,” notes the guitarist. "We have a lot of ideas but no actual finished songs…but we're looking forward to making it as heavy and as high-energy as possible, because that's what we want."
In other Metallica news, Through the Never will premiere exclusively at every IMAX theater across North America for a full week starting September 27, after which it'll expand into additional theaters starting October 4.
